Applying the Pareto principle to the peculiarities of the hospital, it implies that only 20% of the disease brings the majority of the revenue to the hospital. Hence, we focus on five focal areas, which are chosen based on their incidence and mortality rate.
The “Penta” concept is hinged on the major disease entities that occur frequently (morbidity) and the top groups of illnesses that are responsible for most deaths (mortality).
The idea is that these things can be put at our five fingertips for effectiveness and efficiency, such that we will capture the health concerns of Nigerians and West Africans, thereby deploying resources in those directions.
